An unexpected but delighful blend, dark sweet cherries and fresh backyard basil come together in this Cherry Basil Smoothie as a refreshing combination for your summer smoothie.
Can we just stop and take a moment – remembering when the Uproot from Oregon kitchen was based out of two separate apartments (2012-2014), without a green patch to lay claim to? Now that we have a backyard, I am slowly easing into gardening with the purpose of backyard-to-mouth nutrition.
I have to say, it is so satisfying to see that food is growing in our backyard !! I can’t even contain my excitement, except for hope that the kale and the tomato starts recovers from the hail damage.
This post is sponsored by Almond Breeze Almondmilk. I was compensated for my time.
- 1 cup frozen pitted dark sweet cherries
- ½ of a large frozen banana
- 5-6 large basil leaves
- ½ cup Almond Breeze Almondmilk Original
- ¼ cup ice cold water
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- To make it green: 1 cup spinach or kale
- Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth. Add greens for a green version. Enjoy!
This Cherry and Basil Smoothie was inspired by all the fresh cherries around in the supermarkets, and my quickly growing backyard basil plant. When paired with creamy Almond Breeze almond milk, you have yourself a unique, refreshing smoothie treat.
I do recommend using frozen cherries though – you’ll save yourself the time to pit them all, and the frozen consistency is best for a thick, cold smoothie.
I have enjoyed this smoothie as written, as well as with the additional greens. Make it purple or green depending on your mood! Might I recommend enjoying this on my back patio, overlooking the baby vegetable plants?
I have a feeling I already need to find more basil plants, considering I harvested half my basil plant for 2 of these smoothies! I’m gonna need more of that herby goodness around here this summer.
