You guys know that I have been partnering for the past few months with Naked Juice on some recipes, as well as talking about sustainability. Today, I’m excited to have the chance to share their Drink Good Do Good campaign with you all – along with some garden goodies I’ve been harvesting – and then urge you to snap a selfie.

As I start my Masters in Public Health next week (!!), I can’t wait to be back in class learning about issues that I am passionate about –> hi, food systems, and chronic disease prevention.
One of the topics that weaves itself into both of those issues is food insecurity, and the USDA estimates that over 23 million Americans live in food deserts (source). A food desert is an urban neighborhood without access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. As you probably know, poor diet has an impact on chronic disease – so I am interested in pursuing where those two topics meet.
One of the reasons why I decided to start gardening is because of these issues. The more we can infuse our neighborhoods with people growing their own food, the more it will catch on and blossom into projects. My neighborhood is working to improve and expand community gardens right now, and the veggies coming out of them this summer are bountiful – and awesome to see when I walk around the neighborhood.

But in terms of the call to action today, and not just my thoughts on how we can and should better serve these communities without access to quality foods, I want to share an awesome collaboration between Naked Juice and Wholesome Wave – an organization that helps create affordable access to fresh, local and regional food to those in need.
Here comes the selfie!
To help Naked Juice and Wholesome Wave raise awareness about these food deserts, take a photo holding a fruit or vegetable. Share it on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using #DrinkGoodDoGood, tag @NakedJuice and challenge a friend or follower to do the same.
Naked Juice will donate 10 lbs. of produce to Wholesome Wave thanks to your selfie (you read more here if you want to learn how to help further). Help them donate 500,000 pounds of fresh produce by October 1st!
I hope you guys get in on the selfie action like I have, because what better use of a selfie than to donate fresh produce?!

P.S. I proceeded to eat this red pepper dipped in hummus. Such a good snack.
P.P.S. Talk to you soon from sunny Berkeley, California! Today is moving day!!
