This Spiced Apple Cider Mimosa is the perfect simple bubbly beverage to mix up for holiday fun – whether Thanksgiving or a holiday get together.
It’s that day of the year, the one I look forward to… turkey day!
I’m sure you guys are amidst your menu planning and grocery list making, and I am too. This year, I think our menu is going to consist of…
Thanksgiving Menu 2015
- These Spiced Apple Cider Mimosas for cooking festivities
- Turkey with lots of herbs and lemon
- Red wine cranberry sauce
- Cornbread stuffing or chestnut stuffing (haven’t decided!)
- Whipped sweet potatoes with this pecan crumble
- Simple rosemary garlic mashed potatoes
- Roasted green beans
- Shredded brussel sprout salad (with persimmons instead of oranges)
- Plenty of red wine 🙂
- Pecan pie bites
- Pumpkin oatmeal bars (though Noah may win out on a traditional pie)
- Cinnamon sugar whipped cream from this recipe
While cooking, everyone always gets a bit hangry and in the festive spirit, so I always aim to set out some mixed nuts, sliced up fruits and veggies, and a simple cocktail to sip on.
This Spiced Apple Cider Mimosa is the perfect champagne cocktail to whip up, without requiring any prep time. I love apple cider this time of year, and the addition of sparkling wine takes it to the next level.
It really isn’t a recipe: You just mix equal parts and top it off with a star anise pod and a few allspice berries.
Pssst… Don’t skip out on the spice additions! Without the effort of mulling cider or letting it infuse overnight, the spices mingle quickly with the bubbles and your nose inhales the warming smells reminiscent of cloves, cinnamon and licorice.
- 2-4 ounces apple cider
- Equal parts sparkling wine (champagne or cava)
- Garnish with star anise pods and allspice berries
- If using champagne flutes, add 2 ounces of each ingredient. If using wine glasses, add 4 ounces of each ingredient. Either way, you want an equal proportion.
- Add a star anise pod and a few allspice berries to each glass.
- Serve immediately.
It’s really warming and delicious with the addition of the spices – and if you buy the spices in the bulk bins, they’ll cost you mere cents.
I’ll be back after Thanksgiving with more festive + healthy recipes. Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend with friends or family, and lots of good eats. Find some time to relax and be thankful for all the beautiful things you have in your life (I always look back on this post when I need a reminder!).
Cheers!
