Slow Cooker Spiced Pear Butter

Serves: 1.5 cups
Ingredients
  • 5 cups pears
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Peel, core, and chop pears. Blend in food processor or blender until mostly smooth.
  2. In a greased slow cooker, combine all ingredients and cook for 6 hours on high, propping the lid open with a wooden spoon to allow for evaporation. Stir every hour if possible.
  3. For extra velvety texture, blend again after cooking to whip some air into the pear butter.
Notes
The volume will reduce by a lot - I do not recommend halving this recipe, but it can easily be doubled.
This recipe cannot be canned. Refer to official canning recipes to ensure proper acidity for canning.
